s the interest for Golf in Barbados increases, the island poises itself to become the No.1 choice for Caribbean Golf Vacations / Holidays and one of the most exciting Golfing destinations in the world.
Golfing started late in Barbados with Sandy Lane being the only 18 hole course on the island. Since then, Barbados has gained more World Class Golf courses hosting World Golf championships with each course having its own varying challenges and stunning views. During 2006 Barbados was host to the World Golf Championships World Cup at the Sandy Lane Resort.
SOUTH COAST GOLF COURSES
The Barbados Golf Club at Durants has an 18 hole Championship course and was the first Championship Golf course to open to the public. It had been sanctioned by the PGA European Tour to host a tournament.
A 9 hole course is located at the Rockley Golf Club, a well maintained Resort course. This course is known to be an enjoyable one and is also open to visitors.
WEST COAST GOLF COURSES
The Sandy Lane Golf Club, an exclusive club has three courses, the Old Nine, the Country Club Course and the recently added Green Monkey course, a 9 hole private course to be used by owners of homes within the prestigious private community. The two Tom Fazio designed courses rank amongst the finest golf resorts in the world. Advance inquiries are recommended.
The elegance and beauty of the course at Royal Westmoreland, another exclusive club and one of the best of Robert Trent Jones Jnr.'s designs, is outstanding and if there is one course to play in Barbados, it's definitely the one at Royal Westmoreland. Advance inquiries are recommended.
Almond Beach Village has a 9 hole course, not very challenging but caters to the all-inclusive market.
The Apes Hill Club an 18 hole course, is where you can play a round of golf while taking in great views of both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, catch glimpses of green monkeys in a wooded ravine, play your way through a coral rock quarry and never step off beautifully groomed turf-grass.
Most of the prestigious courses have been designed by top International Golfers and highly reputable International Golf Architects, which is why they attract the rich and famous and many returning celebrities.
A variety of Golf Packages are available at the Golf Clubs & Golf accommodations in Barbados.
There are also the fun filled Miniature Golf courses which are very popular with both locals and visitors alike.
The Pirate Adventure Mini Golf course on the Ocean Park facility is the first themed miniature golf course in Barbados, it consists of 2 nine hole mini putt courses, a club house which over looks waterfalls and ponds, a sunken galleon and picnic tables. This is usually fun for all.
The Mini Golf & Driving Range located in St Thomas also has a fun course.
