Silver Sands Beach, also known as
Silver Rock,
Round Rock or
De Action Beach, is Barbados’ top windsurfing spot.
This is a long, wide stretch of beach with a nice ambience, and consists of two separate bays.
One bay is home to the Silver Sands Recreational Park,
deAction Beach Shop and
Round Rock Apartment at Sea. The
Silver Rock Resort was also once located here before it was closed and demolished.
The other bay fronts
Inchcape Seaside Villas and what was once the
Silver Sands Hotel Resort.
At Silver Sands Beach the waters are choppy with medium to large waves and lots of undertow.
The beach here is windy and provides fantastic conditions for
kite Surfing with a reef a little ways out, producing a nice break for good
wind surfing during the season.
Although a fairly popular beach during the winter season, this beach still has a secluded feel to it, sheltered by sand dunes, casuarinas and wild vegetation.
On the beachfront you can find all your kiteboarding and windsurfing rentals at ‘
De Action Shop’, which is owned by world ranking windsurfer
Brian “Irie Man” Talma, or as he is locally called “
De Action Man”. The beach shop also provides surfing, kite boarding and windsurfing lesson.
Silver Sands Beach has also been the official venue for the
deAction Barbados Waterman Festival, and the start of many Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) World Cup Tours.
The recreational park is a popular hangout and picnic spot for locals in the area. It has a playing field, public facilities and a playground for kids.
In the surrounding area there a number of rum shops, restaurants, bars and vacation accommodations.
Silver Rock beach / Silver Sands beach can be found on the
South Coast of Barbados in the parish of Christ Church.
