One of the most socially varied sports on the islands, folks of all types find their way to the garrison savanah to watch horse racing and for the chance to win in the betting pools. Many visitors also get involved, viewing and betting on the races.
Horse Racing on the island is governed by the Barbados Turf Club, which plays a large part in promoting the sport and keeping it running smoothly, so to speak. All horse racing is held on the Garrison Savannah, the island's only race track, located on the South Coast of the island.
Barbados' racing occurs in three seasons. Each season is separated into six one day races, on consecutive Saturdays. The highlight of the sason is the Gold Cup, sponsered by Sandy Lane Hotel. This is held on the first Saturday in March, and attracts visitors from around the globe to witness this magnificent day of racing.
