In Barbados Polo can be dated as far back as the 1800's when officers of the British Military Forces stationed at the Garrison Savannah played for recreation. In the 1880's the wealthy became involved and by 1884 the first Polo Club was formed and named the Barbados Polo Club, which in 1965 moved from the Garrison Savannah to Holders Hill.
They are presently four world class Polo venues in Barbados with excellently maintained Polo fields. The main Polo venue in Barbados is the Holder's Polo Field (Barbados Polo Club) located at Holders Hill which is situated almost next to Holders House, the family home of Johnny and Wendy Kidd. This house and its beautiful grounds have been known for wonderful entertainment by great International Performers during the Holders Season.
One of the unique traditions of Field Polo in Barbados is its fantastic settings complimented by the friendships and camaraderie with visiting regional & international teams such as England, Jamaica, Ireland, Italy and more.
In recent times the sport of Polo has become increasingly popular because of its festive atmosphere and many Polo activities usually having International Media Coverage. It is also becoming one of the more entertaining yet relaxing sporting events on the island.
The Barbados Polo season lasts for five months starting in December and ending in April tending weather conditions, with polo matches and tournaments been played on weekends, mostly Sundays or sometimes during the week.
All Spectators are welcome whether locals or visitor to the island and parking is available.
