All horse racing in Barbados takes place on the flat at the Garrison Savannah race track just outside Bridgetown and within a stone's throw of Carlisle Bay. Formerly the drilling and parade ground for the local militia, extensive drainage schemes by the Royal Engineers Transformed a damp swampland into a popular recreation area, a feature which has barely changed over the past 200 years.
